Love Apple’s Designs, Thank Dieter Rams
This story over at the Telegraph is an interview with Dieter Rams, whom for many may think of Braun products, but in reality he is Jonathan Ives inspiration for Apple’s product design.
“When Ive talks about Rams designing “surfaces that were without apology, bold, pure, perfectly-proportioned, coherent and effortless”, he could equally be talking about the iPod. “No part appeared to be either hidden or celebrated, just perfectly considered and completely appropriate in the hierarchy of the product’s details and features. At a glance, you knew exactly what it was and exactly how to use it.”
You have to admit Apple’s products are very sexy compared to other devices. My work laptop is a Lenovo and it’s a plastic pile of doo that I loathe so much it stays on it’s docking station. Nobody asks me about it, they ask about the MacBook Pro sitting next to it. So not only are your Apple products sexy, they’re conversation starters.
At the bottom of the story there is a link to a book that Dieter has written titled “As little design as possible”. A quirky title for sure, but we know a lot of thought goes into these products by Dieter and by Apple.
